Introduction and history
The Elton Hall has been serving the town of Clevedon since 1923.  It is fortunate in having a sprung dance floor a sloping stage and an orchestra pit, it was for many years the main centre in the town for drama, concerts, dances, meetings and social functions.

Object of the Project
The town of Clevedon has grown to approximately 22,000+ and there is a need for the Elton Hall to be brought up to date to meet the pressing demands of a town of intellectual, cultural traditions and elevated sporting activity.

The Elton Hall will provide affordable space and fully equipped facilities to the organisations in the Town, and others.

The Hall is at the geographical centre of the town and in walking distance - approximately 90% of the population live within one mile.

A very modern building for today
The Trustees – the Elton Hall is a Charitable Trust - have drawn up plans to refurbish and extend the 180 seat building to the highest modern standards, to meet the needs of a 21st Century Clevedon.

Modern materials and eco-friendly, low cost heating and cooling systems are planned together with advanced control of lighting and sound.

Of particular interest is the intention to include the Church building of St John’s in the concept of a community centre for activities; seeing it as the Concert hall for Clevedon. The Church with its excellent acoustic, 250 seats, will provide an exceptional venue for concerts from choral to jazz, instrumental and drama.

The refurbishment and extension to the existing Hall & grounds
The existing Hall with the exception of the roof is in a sound condition and the dance floor and stage need refurbishment.

However, the lavatories and kitchen are not convenient and importantly, do not meet current legislation in their present state and location. They need to be upgraded, and placed at the same level as the hall to meet the legal requirement for disabled access; therefore, a new building extension is required.

As the floor levels of the Hall and Church  are virtually the same, the new lavatories and Kitchen can serve both buildings when the Church is used for concerts.

The opportunity will also be taken to provide a level entrance to St John’s and Hillside roads and build an attractive meeting room which is multipurpose, flexible and linked to the kitchen to serve larger functions.

Additionally, a large meeting space and a Bar facility created for use by the Hall and Church, say at interval time for concerts and similar functions.

The whole site to be a landscaped Wild Life Garden.
